barbell recommendation

Hi.

I’m buying equipment to begin the novice linear progression in my garage. I’m stuck on which barbell to get.

Male. 37 years old. 5’6". Small-ish hands. Desk job. No sport-specific goals or training needs, I just want to get stronger and get bigger. Willing to try power cleans if they are recommended for me, but currently don’t have an interest in olympic lifts. Hoping to buy one barbell that will work for novice progression and beyond, but if the consensus is that two+ bars will be necessary then I’m looking for what they should be and which should be first. Would like to keep it under about $400 for now, but I understand that would have to change if I really need more than one bar.

Thanks for any suggestions.

I’d probably get an Ohio Power bar (bare steel is fine if you don’t live in a humid area, otherwise black zinc or stainless steel).

I would second this Ohio Power Bar recommendation. Great bar, especially given the very reasonable cost.

I really like my Ohio Power Bar. I bought the cerakote coating, which Rogue’s oxidation resistance scale (for whatever it’s worth) ranks ahead of zinc.
