block periodization vs DUP

i have graduated from LP -->TM—>block periodization using % and rpe for top singles… currently my cycle has 3 weeks of volume accumulation (x1 @9, 5x5 at 75,77.5,80%), a week of higher intensity (3x3 at around 85%), and another "peak"weak of 2x2 at 90% 1RM for comp lifts.

after doing 3 weeks of 5’s i feel like ive done good work, but then my 3’s and 2’s suck bc im not used to training at that relative intensity, even though i do a top single @9 weekly for all comp lifts. then by the time i get back to doing 5’s for volume i feel like i suck at doing 5’s bc im used to lower reps.

a few of my exodus brothers are in favor of a weekly DUP setup where you do a hypertrophy day, a power day, and a strength day all in the same week (HPS) to avoid detraining of one area or the other.

my question is, are you intelligent and strong gentlemen in favor of block periodization or DUP/HPS stlye programming and what are the benefits to one or the other?

thank you very much,

cole

You can do DUP within the context of a block style periodization by changing the relative priority of emphasis on H, P, or S and the subsequent resources devoted to them. On the other hand, that would really be more concurrent periodization than discrete blocks. I don’t really love pure block (conjugate) for strength training.
