Blood pressure medication and supplementation

Hi guys, 32 year old male looking at preworkout supplements to get the extra energy I’d like to have after a day at the office and getting the kids settled before I head to the gym. Roughly 2 years ago I was diagnosed with having blood pressure that floated from the prehypertension to hypertension range. Since then I have lost roughly 50lbs and am on a daily dose of 5mg of amlodipine which now has my resting BP at a normal healthy number.

My question is should I be concerned about the vasodilating effect of some supplements to further act upon my blood pressure in a similar way that my blood pressure medicine does? Or would the added stresses of lifting and caffeine basically cancel that out?

I expect you’ll be fine, but it’s hard to say confidently without knowing what specific ingredients / pre-workouts you’re talking about, you know?

(As an aside - if you’ve lost 50 lbs since being diagnosed with hypertension, have you been re-assessed by your doctor to see whether you still need the medication?)

Unfortunately I have followed back up with my PCP and a cardiologist and they both want me to stick with it.

To specify more on the ingredients the ones that caught my eye specifically were citrulline & arginine.

I expect you’ll be fine with the supplementation.

What is your typical blood pressure now?
