calibrating a home blood pressure monitor

Hi, Doctors – is there a best way to check my home blood pressure monitor against the one at my doctor’s office? Can I use the same arm? Is an interval between readings necessary (if so, how long)? Any advice would be appreciated

Also, was curious as to handedness in blood pressure readings – why would that make a difference, if it does? That question was prompted by this study:
“The following variables were assessed at the initial visit: age, sex, race, body mass index, history of cardiovascular disease, and handedness.”

From Methods @ What is the optimal interval between successive home blood pressure readings using an automated oscillometric device? - PMC

Thanks!

Yes, you can use the same arm within a few minutes of the other measurement.

And to your question: the study just says they collected that variable. I don’t see any other claims or data indicating that it impacts blood pressure readings (as it should not).
