Do you foresee any issues with delaying the consumption of carbs+fats to later in the day/evening as a means to control total calories?
Essentially something like:
Mid-Morning - 2scoops whey in water
Post-Workout - Meal1
Dinner - Meal 2
Bed
Is there anything “wrong” with doing this approach? I have heard some mixed opinions on consuming protein alone in isolation, but can’t find much data on it.
Frankly I am not really hungry in the morning, don’t love training full stomach, and my appetite is much higher in the evening. I know BBM isn’t a fan of training fasted so I figured a whey shake pre-workout would be more optimal than nothing.
Yea, it’s probably not ideal for body composition or performance, but if it markedly improves adherence- it’s probably worth the squeeze. It doesn’t sound like this is something you’ve been doing for a long time so I’m not sure it’s going to be a massive change in adherence for you.
Looks like performance is reduced substantially in most types of physical activity when either fasted or with very low carbohydrate intake prior to exercise and time restricted feeding where most meals shifted later in the day have been associated with worse blood sugar regulation and insulin sensitivity in diabetics, pre diabetics, and those with excess adiposity. This may portend worse body comp outcomes.
It may be a very small, negligible effect in comparison to adherence, which is why I don’t really advise against IF…but I wouldn’t choose it if adherence would otherwise be the same.
