Carrageenan

This seems to be found in a handful protein powders/shakes and I was wondering if this is a carcinogen, and some studies showing that degraded carrageenan can be carcinogenic. Is this ingredient indeed carcinogenic, and can this contribute to poor health outcomes? Also, is there an upper limit of consuming shakes with carrageenan before one should be worried? I understand that the dose makes the poison.

I have not seen evidence showing that carrageenan consumption causes harm, as it is considered safe after testing from multiple organizations. As an additive, it’s likely there for shelf life, stability, and maybe taste. I don’t think it’s a big issue independently.
