Hi,
I know Jordan has mentioned a few things on his instagram stories about CBD oil in the past. My wife is now looking into it since she has a lot of anxiety but I had forgotten what was said on the subject. She is currently training and her anxiety sometimes derails her progress.
Was wondering if I could get your thoughts on its:
- effectiveness on anxiety
- effectiveness on recovery
- any other benefits or links on the subject
I’m sceptical about it and want to avoid just saying “its an expensive placebo that is administered under the tongue with an eye dropper” which will result in a swift smack to my face.
Thanks,
Rob
Hey Lobeless,
Thanks for the post and I hope you’re well. At present. the data on CBD oil in its multiple preparations isn’t terribly robust- though we can use it get an idea of its efficacy. Additionally, CBD oil is not a pharmaceutical product and does not get held to the same production standards as, say, Tylenol, which is another area of concern.
In any event, onto your questions:
- It’s not effective for reducing anxiety (can increase it in some cases)
- It has no effect on recovery as measured by objective performance
- At present, the data on CBD oil suggests that it doesn’t do much of anything save for rare seizure disorders who are also being treated with antiepileptics. There are side effects that are known at this time, but it’s a relatively new supplement as well so IMO it is equally as likely that there are unknown benefits as it is to find out there are unknown side effects.
I’d pass on CBD oil right now until more convincing data comes along.
If your wife has anxiety, I would recommend her seeing a physician and likely a psychologist. Those would be far more effective than anything CBD could ever do.
CBD oil is really useful.
