Close grip bench

Hey all,

Just finished up my first month of the Bridge and I can honestly say I’m officially on board with RPE training and not going back to 5/3/1. Thanks Jesus.

I realized during week 4 of the program that my bench is significantly stronger and more explosive when my hands are closer together than spread out. By this I don’t mean as close as when I’m actually doing close grip bench, but probably a thumb-lengths wider on each side which I still feel is pretty damn close.

I understand this may mean I’m more dominant with my triceps but should I continue to bench closer grip or spread my hands out further to train and engage my chest more? Also, if I kept my grip closer together would it potentially slow down my press strength progress? Bench has historically been my worst lift.

I don’t think I’d necessarily move your grip out or that this would have a negative effect on your long term development. Your bench grip is about the same as mine, if that helps.
