COVID vaccine

Thank you for the podcast and info an the vaccine. I’m wondering what would happen if someone were to take the first of the series of the vaccine but neglected to take the second shot 3 weeks later. Would the person be more at risk? would just getting the first of the series be worth it at all?

They would be at higher risk compared to if they had taken both doses, but they would still derive some intermediate degree of protection overall.

If you get the first dose, we strongly recommend completing the course with the second.

Assuming it’s OK to turn this into a general covax thread, I had a question: How do these newfangled RNA vaccines prevent a transcription error in coding for the spike protein? Or is that even a possibility?

The vaccine contains RNA. There is no transcription happening. It enters the cell, at which point translation is initiated by ribosomes.

Errors in translation could result in immediate termination of translation or translation of a slightly altered spike protein, in which case we’d generate antibodies to that.

It seems as though I may be getting the vaccine soon. I’m wondering what- if anything- should I do to prepare before getting it. Would it be ok to continue with my training routine 3 hours after getting the vaccine or should I wait a few days?
