Deadlift Bars

I would like to get a deadlift bar to use in training so I get the same feel as what is used in competition. I believe it comes downs to an Ohio or Texas DL Bar. Thoughts on this?

I prefer the Texas DL Bar, as the Ohio DL bar has non standard knurling spacing and is very sharp.

According to this the knurling is spaced essentially the same as the OPB (only 1/16" difference):

1/16" apparently makes a difference, as it’s instantly noticeable. Anecdotally, I can’t get people to use the barbell in the gym. I may also be very sensitive to this.

I guess so, lol. I was thinking that it’s an illusion created by the lack of center knurling… but the Texas Deadlift Bar doesn’t have center knurling either. Actually, now that I look it up, the Texas bars only have 15.5" of smooth in the middle… so if you’re comparing it to that, then yeah it’s a big difference. I’m used to the OPB though, hence my confusion.

Thanks for the info. Do you have a preferred vendor for the Texas DL bar?

Yea that could be the case. I still prefer pulling on the Eleiko Competition bar, but if I have to yank on a DL bar…I’m gonna pick the Texas one lol.

Texas Strength Systems or Lifting Large.

First day with the TX DL Bar, and the knurling feels very aggressive! More than I remembered.
