As someone who has a strong sweet-tooth, I tried looking online to find the maximum daily amount of sugar I should restrict myself to. However, all I could find was men should be restricted to 38g of added sugar per day. So my question is, how do I determine the maximum daily amount of sugar I should limit myself to? Also, are there any observed negative effects caused from consuming relatively high amounts of sugar if an individual is eating at or below maintenance calories and doesn’t have diabetes. For example, I’ve read that testosterone decreases after eating sugar, but I didn’t look very far into its validity. Thanks
We don’t recommend consuming sugar-sweetened beverages or eating a diet low in fiber that is also high in carbohydrates, e.g. a diet high in refined carbohydrates. That said, the testosterone claim is made in error and we do not feel strongly about any firm limits on sugar intake outside of a broader dietary pattern recommendation.
