Eating Well Post Calcaneus Reconstruction

49 YO Male, 5’11", 200 lbs, 33" waist, and lifting since 2017.

Drs.,

I suffered a comminuted fracture of my left calcaneus last Sunday and will have surgery to install plates and screws this Tuesday.

My question is about diet post-op and not dropping too much weight.

My joke is that I am a power lifter trapped in a cyclists body. Without consistent lifting and To Be A Beast macros my “natural” weight is around 165 pounds.

Would maintenance macros be best to support healing and maintain muscle? Or would recomp macros be better with the lowered carb levels considering lower activity?

I appreciate your guidance.

I don’t think you need to change your nutrition in the post op period, as barring malnutrition, it’s unlikely to make a significant impact on recovery outcomes. Your energy expenditure is likely similar now even if you’re not doing lower body stuff and I’d continue to train upper body and your non-injured leg in the interim.
