EEA Study and SQF facilities

I was listening to a podcast on fitness/nutrition and the guest was an author of this paper PMCID: PMC10561576 PMID: 37800468. Basically, the claim was that Essential Amino Acids work better for MPS stimulation then meal based protein including whey. The author seemed to suggest possible better muscle growth outcomes assuming training, rest etc was appropriate. I was wondering, even if this is true, would it matter as long as you continue to get 1.6 -2.2 grams of protein per kilo of body weight and other variables are equal? Second question. I was told that supplements produced in a SQF level 3 facility our basically as safe as third party testing giving the same product assurance. When I research SQF facilities this seems inaccurate. Could you explain the difference between a SQF Facilities certification and third party certification like Informed Sport or NSF? Thanks

If the claim is that consuming EAA-alone in place of whey leads to better training outcome, then I’d laugh the individual out of the room. It is highly, highly unlikely. If someone is getting the amount of protein you suggest here, I’m happy. I do not think supplemental EAAs are useful in place of whey.

SQF level 3 is not anywhere close to 3rd party testing. While the levels 1 and 2 encompass good manufacturing processes accreditation, they’re still not actually batch testing the food product or supplement in most cases, especially for prohibited ingredients (e.g. those on a WADA test). SQF level 3 is mostly policy/procedure around manufacturing, not actual testing of each batch.
