So, I’ve seen some people suggest that the concept of entropy in physics, which seems to be a measure of disorder from what I understand, is what causes aging. These individuals basically argue that the 2nd law of thermodynamics, which states that entropy must always increase in a closed system, applies to human bodies too. They say that entropy increases overtime in a human body, which in turn means disorder rises in it, which causes the body to “deteriorate” overtime and “inevitably wear out”.
Now based on what I’ve read from you guys, I already sort of see a few issues with that theory. What I’ve understood from you guy’s articles and listening to your podcasts is first of all, the human body is not some sort of machinery, vehicle or road that is supposed to “inevitably wear out” over time but instead is a biological unit that is very adaptable for life and adapts to all sorts of stresses and non stresses put over it. Second of all, it doesn’t seem to me like the body is doomed to begin deteriorating before death either, from what I’ve seen in some of you guy’s forum answers, instagram posts, podcasts and yt videos, it seems that the vast majority of our muscle mass and strength can be maintained throughout the lifespan with adequate levels of activity and resistance training.
Have you guys ever come across anyone that insists on suggesting this as a cause of aging? Do you guys think this theory holds any merit whatsoever?
