Fat loss - when and how to switch to recomp?

Hi,

Using your nutrition methods (…to the best of my ability, of course), I’ve lost about 67# over the course of about 15 months (THANK YOU). Mostly maintained strength (although lately it’s been tough). 5’ 5.75" , 187# average weekly body weight, waist 33.5" at navel. Navy method has me at 16% body fat (with a 16" neck). Current macros are protein 230, carbs 185, fat 75g, 2x high carb day a week, 275 carbs, 210 protein, 65 fat. 1 HIIT session (sled), 1 LISS, 4x barbell based / power building type workouts a week.

It’s been a wild ride… my question is when and how you would suggest I switch to recomp. Reading a bit here, it seems like now is actually the time and I should be more patient with the last few inches I’d like to lose. (ABZZZZ BRO. …ahem, sorry …I’ve always been the fat kid  )

Also, if recomp would be your suggestion, should I just keep protein where it is and up my fats / carbs proportionally?

Goals are to eventually do a powerlifting meet and keep physique in check. I’m actually not an abzzzzz guy, but would like to check it off the bucket list. I just want to get / stay lean and keep training.

Barbells have changed my life big time. …thanks so much and hope you are well.

Nice job, EBF!

I think if you want to get abzZz, keep going for another few weeks and see what happens. When it comes time to go back up, I’d add carbs and fats in whatever proportion you like AFTER a 3 week maintenance period.

Thanks so much. I’ll keep my current macros for 3 weeks and reassess at that point. I anticipate that would bring my weekly average down to about 185#. The hard part of all this of course is finding what my maintenance macros are. Onward through the fog. And again thanks for everything. you’ve changed my life forever man.

Yea. Wherever you end up maintaining your bodyweight will- by definition- be your maintenance calories. That said, congrats on your progress so far. You’ve changed your life forever

Jordan, is the recommendation to keep maintainece for 3 weeks for compliance purposes or because this individual has lost a good amount of BW (congrats OP!)?

Another way of asking is, for an individual who does smaller bulk and cut cycles, is 3
1-3 weeks of maintenance recommended there as well?

good point… I wasn’t exactly a 3rd party to this transaction :)… Much more to come… Thanks!!!

It depends how long the cycles are and the magnitude of change. A bit of maintenance is generally useful IMO though.
