Gaining Weight

Hello, I have a couple of questions on gaining weight. I am a 6 foot 2, 197 pound, male, 21 year old currently running the bridge. Body fat is about 11-12%. Waist measurment is about 32 inches.

  1. So if you can only get a hypertrophy response from training if you are in a caloric surplus, then how do you guys continue to get stronger while maintaining a certain weight? I realize you can grow stronger with the muscle you already have, but there has to be an upper limit to this, correct?

  2. Would you recommend bulking and cutting cycles for getting as strong/jacked as possible in a given time? say one year?

  3. At what rate do you recommend the weight gain take place if your goal is purely hypertrophy/strength? is 1 pound per week reasonable?

Thank you for your time!

Perk,

Thanks for the post and for joining us here.

  1. You get a hypertrophy response no matter what, but it’s very inefficient (or impossible in some) to gain muscle whilst losing body fat. Most folks would probably get stronger if they gained weight all else being equal, but this may not be appropriate either.

  2. Depends on the person.

  3. Depends on the person. 1lb per week may or may not be a good idea.
