Intermittent fasting in a 2 day/week workout program

Hi,

First post this forum. I have been intrigued by intermittent fasting as an efficient means of weight loss, especially as to how it might relate to a 2 day per week workout program. I was thinking, if you have 3 days recovery time, skipping a meal or two on day 3 prior to having big meals on workout day, this would allow for some fat burning. In my case, I’m 6’2" 186lb, 66 years old. I follow Sullivan and Baker’s recs for recovery re nutrition.

Thanks,

Paul.

Bophame,

Thanks for the message and welcome to the forum.

My thoughts:

  1. I don’t think IF is a terribly useful option, as the compliance rates are typically lower than other diets and don’t tend to produce any additional benefit due to the fasting. You may be different as an individual, sure, but I wouldn’t recommend it.

  2. I would not recommend following a 2 day per week workout program. Rather I would encourage you to train more often.

  3. I do not think 3 days recovery time is necessary for you/better for you than training more frequently.

  4. A sustained calorie deficit is how you would lose weight
