Is a Cut Necessary?

I am 17 years old, 5’10” - 11”, and weigh around 205. I eat 3000-3500 cals a day. I wear a pant size of about 35 or 36. I came off the Starting Strength train so I’ve been trying to eat through the stocking points and have gotten a little bit of belly on me. What should I do from this point?

BrodG,

What’s your waist circumference homie?

-Jordan

I just measured my waist circumference and it was at 38”. I watched the video and read the article, it helped me with understanding it better. Thanks!

I am at a 38” waist circumference.

Cool man

Sorry I posted that twice, it took a while to get approved so I resent it after 2 days.

So if my BMI is 28 and my waist circumference is 38 inches, using the two coincidentally, what dietary changes would you recommend to me? Like you said in the video, the short term gainz will not outweigh the short term health aspect. I am currently eating around 3000-3400 cals a day and 160-180 grams of protein. What would be the ideal caloric intake to trim some fat off? Thanks Dr. Feigenbaum!

I would reduce your calories from non-protein sources.

Do you think I could knock the calories down to about 2500 while bumping protein up?

You could, sure. though I don’t think you need to.

The main reason I want to cut some is because I have a vacation coming up towards the end of April and I do not like the way my waist looks now. I hope I can fix this issue by mid-late April. I don’t want to cut too fast and lose muscle in the process. That’s my number one fear.

Perhaps if I sent an image of my current physique it’d give you a more accurate representation of what I have described.

Let me be clear- I think you should reduce your body fat via a calorie deficit.

I don’t think you’ll be able to preserve 100% of your muscle mass, as nearly everyone will lose lean body mass when they lose fat.

That said, I would stop worrying about this and take actionable steps to achieve your goals without shooting yourself in the foot.

Thanks for the great reply Dr. Feigenbaum! I will start taking a step towards that goal today!

Sorry I’m still bothering you about this Dr. Feigenbaum, but how much of a caloric deficit are we talking about. I’ve done 2500 for the past 2 days and I felt like garbage in the gym. Was that too much of a cut down from ~3000 cals?

It is highly unlikely that 500kCal is making a noticeable difference in your training. I would recommend reading : To Be A Beast - Barbell Medicine and watching: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O2lxBRCaHKk

You may need to adjust your programming given that you were running an LP. which doesn’t last very long regardless of calorie surplus (or deficit).

I have same problems. Did you try to use clenbuterol or Arimidex? I usually buy in Best Injectable Anabolic Steroids For Sale - Buy Steroids Injections Online

Why would you recommend using an aromatase-inhibitor (arimidex) or an off-brand beta agonist with weak weight loss data (clenbuterol), which are both banned in sport and illegal to use without prescription in many countries?

Just eat more before and after your workouts. If you’re doing it on 2500 calories a day, eat 800 calories when you get up and work out before your next meal, eat 800 calories at that meal too and then your last two meals make 450 a pop. If you work out evenings do it in reverse, etc.

I’m not a professional sportsman. Just interesting who have experience.

This is one way to eat 2500 Calories, yes. It doesn’t make a difference how you eat them, however.
