Low back pain after deadlifts

Hello,

Background: herniated disc’s in my lower back in 2016 during squats. However it hasn’t bothered me until recently.

I’ve been following the beginner prescription and about every four weeks I misgroove on a rep and then immediate tightness. Today though was worse than ever and I just don’t get it. It was a warm up set at 6 rpe. Ive made very good progress but I keep tweaking my back.

My question is should I think about switching to variations such at sumos or an elevated convential(less rom).

Hi Gabe,

There isn’t always a clear reasons for why these sorts of things happen. More important is how we respond to them, and we have an article discussing that here: Pain in Training: What To Do?

Regarding your questions: trying a different variation like sumo is a reasonable thing to try.
