Low blood pressure, recommended to increase sodium

Hi!

I just left the cardiologist. I was referred because of dizziness and low blood pressure. My rheumatologist was thinking POTs might be the cause.

The doctor took my blood pressure standing and sitting and both were the same, 100/60. He didn’t seem to think this suggested POTs.

Anyways…he ended up recommending I add salt to my food which I already have been doing. I asked him if he had a specific amount I should be shooting for and he didn’t have an answer. He ended up prescribing me Fludrocortisone acetate to help me hold my sodium. I lift but I don’t do any kind of cardio and don’t think I’m losing salt in any other way. I’m not excessively drinking water either (definitely could afford to drink more honestly).

I listened to a little bit of the BBM podcasts on sodium but wondering if you guys would recommend this medication? My main complaint is dizziness and it interferes with my training.

Thank you for any guidance you can give! :pray:t3:

Fludrocortisone is commonly used in this situation to help increase blood pressure, and I expect it will be effective for that purpose.

However, we unfortunately don’t have enough information on the rest of your evaluation so far, other medical history, etc. to provide confident input on its use in this specific situation. A more detailed review of your evaluation, lab testing, meds/medical history etc. would be best handled via a consultation.
