~3 weeks ago I had what felt like a “stretch” in the region of the ischial tuberosity while doing squats with chains. In the following weeks when I squatted (any variant) I would feel the tension by the time I got to my working sets, but now I can feel it even when squatting with an empty bar. The pain is not terrible by any means (2-3/10 at most) and it tends to get better as I warm up and do more sets, but it is very annoying. I only experience the discomfort near the end of the range of motion (from 2-4 inches above parallel to parallel), no discomfort when walking or sitting but it does feel slightly tender to palpation. The only exercise variants that cause any issue are squats; deadlift and variants do not cause any discomfort. Since the issue started, I have not really changed training at all to see if it would just go away.
I have been running 4 day/week templates so I typically have 3 squatting slots per week. My thoughts on possible changes to programming to help resolve this issue include:
-Continue training as normal for a bit longer to see if it resolves, adjusting load as needed.
-Change the squat variants to tempo variants or stop ROM just above where discomfort is felt
-Maybe drop a squatting slot to help manage fatigue better
Do any of these sound like reasonable changes to help resolve this issue, or do you guys have any other ideas?
Thanks a lot for your time and all the resources you guys put out!
Hey @JJLek sorry to hear about the recent hamstring issues. What you’ve outlined sounds reasonable. I’d likely go ahead and start with managing loading by adjusting RPE and then going to your second bullet if symptoms don’t improve.
