Occassional dizziness on heavy back squats

Occasionally, I experience dizziness on completing a heavy back squat set. I have experimented with taking high-bp meds before or after a morning workout. Losartan I have started taking at night and it seems to help. Amlodopine I ran out and requires another doctor visit, but I have put it off. However, I’d appreciate your thoughts on this. Thanks.

Hey there, JChioles.

Lots of potential reasons why you might be having this experience. In another setting, my first thought would be to ask about how long you’ve been on these medications at these doses, how often you have this experience, and clarify whether it’s more of a sensation of feeling lightheaded like you’re going to lose consciousness or if the room is spinning, as these would send me down different paths. That type of workup is more suited for a consultation, if needed.

In this setting however, I am concerned about whether or not you’re training fasted, your programming, and how you’re breathing when you train. For example, training fasted on a program that has you training very close to failure would be more likely to cause lightheadedness at times.
