Patellar tendinopathy questions

Hello guys

Currently dealing with patellar tendinopathy.

  1. when is it considered too early to introduce full depth high bar squats?

  2. is the biofeed back test realiable because i cant do it? Any alternative?

  3. I own knee rehab template but first time dealing with patellar tendinopathy and seems tricky but i think ill manage it. Do i have to run the full template to ensure max rehab or cutting it half willl do considereing i dont regress?

  1. There is no firm timeframe for this; it depends entirely on your tolerance.

If performing full-depth high bar squats results in a significant/persistent increase in pain during the training session or the subsequent 24 hours, then I would not be using that exercise just yet.

  1. While this test can be useful for some, you don’t “have” to do it in order to manage this issue. More important would be to find the movements (and loads) that you can tolerate without flaring up symptoms during/after your session.

  2. If you achieve resolution of symptoms halfway through the template that’s great – you could pivot away from the template at that point, but I’d just be careful about how significant of a change your “new” training looks at that point. For example, if you switch from the rehab template to a program with much higher volume and intensity involving that tendon, I wouldn’t be surprised if the symptoms relapse again. Ultimately it needs to be a graded approach.
