Potato Calories.......

I have a very brief question about counting calories/macros when baking foods.

Uncooked potato weight = 772 = 594 calories
Air Fryer cooked weight = 342 = 318 calories

Do 276 calories really disappear in the air frying process? Should I be using the 594 calorie amount or the 318.

You cannot use the cooked weight of a food to determine its nutritional data reported from the raw weight.

So use raw weight to formulate calories and macros?

Yes, most nutrition information is calculated from raw food.

For example, 300g RAW chicken breast is 200g COOKED. So I enter 300g into my food tracker. Is this correct?

I think this might a place where people go wrong with tracking.

In this example if you weigh out 300g COOKED, you are actually eating 450g RAW.

I have a random chart, found online, that I use to convert.

Dr. F, what do you use for converting?

I mass my chicken raw and then add the macronutrients and cals of that amount to my log for the day. I don’t think reverse calculating is hot ticket here.

Sorry to hijack this thread. so it sounds like you recommend using raw data over cooked data in general for foods?

So you portion raw, cook portions separately and store separately?

What would your approach be to dumping a bunch of chicken in a slow cooker and eating throughout the week? Other than, “don’t do that”

I never use cooked data unless it’s bacon. The info on the package is raw, typically.
