I’ve been preaching BBM stuff all over my gym, and my powerlifter friend who is in his early 40s asked me if there are any general information or precautions for strength training after 50s with athletic heart syndrome. He was diagnosed last year iirc. He’s a very tall, weighs around 140+kg, with 480.50 wilks from one of the competitions. Competes equipped and raw. His heart never bothered him, he just went for a general screening and doctors diagnosed him.
He doesn’t do any cardio, so how he got athletic heart is a mystery of its own, but it is what it is.
I’m asking for him, due to language barrier so sorry for paraphrasing. I understand you can’t give any specific advice, but general recommendations and thoughts would be very appreciated. Thank you!
No, but in the back of his mind it’s probably bothering him if it’s going to get worse with age.
When he was initially diagnosed - the lady doctor really started talking to him in such a manner like she was trying freak him out. That he should stop doing any physical activity etc. I know from your seminars that it’s very bad.
He later went to another hospital, where the diagnose was confirmed and the doc didn’t say anything about it. He just said like “I can tell that you’re into sports, which is probably why it happened”.
Right now he knows all is good, but the reason he asked specifically about 50s is probably because the diagnose was presented to him in such a harsh way that it left some shadow of doubt about his state of health. Like it might get worse with age, and he’s unsure how to approach his training with it getting worse.
Right … there isn’t anything to “get worse” because it’s not actually a problem / pathology. It’s an adaptation.
Imagine if you lifted weights for a long time, got jacked, and went to a doctor who told you that you had “lifter’s muscle syndrome”, and told you to stop lifting so it doesn’t get worse. That’s basically what happened here.
