Pregnancy Planning

Hey Docs,

Happy new year to both of you. I have a bit of backstory to this post as these details might help. My wife and I had our first child in 2018. Pregnancy was smooth as well as delivery (At least as well as can be) and our little man was perfect. My wife got pregnant again in 2020 and ended up miscarrying at 11 weeks. She got pregnant again in 2021 and at our anatomy ultrasound we discovered a 2-vessel cord instead of 3. The pregnancy went well until about 38 weeks as delivery was induced as there were concerns in the last couple of weeks with growth and tone of our daughter. She is great and healthy and things turned out well but I think the trauma greatly impacted my wife. After these pregnancies, my wife has become quite worried things won’t go so well this time around. She is wanting me to get my minerals and blood checked to make sure I don’t have any deficiencies that could lead to more complications as she has read that the placenta health comes from dad. I tend to think that these things happen and don’t know if these extra steps are worth it. I’m 40 years old, 5’10" 180lbs and lift twice each week and train jitz (As the kids call it;)) 4 times each week. My wife is 35 years old 5’6" 135 and has been training 2-3 times each week with yoga 1-2 times.

My question is, given the above information, what would you do yourselves or advise me to do in order to get ready to conceive our next child which we plan to start in a few months. Any advice or direction are helpful.

Thanks,

Rory

Hi there,

I can understand the concern here, however there are no mineral-related or other blood tests that would be recommended for you in this context to reduce the risk of pregnancy-related complications.

I’d simply recommend you meet our general guidelines/priorities for health, as we would for anyone else.

Thanks, Austin.

thanks for advice
