I’m unsure if this question can be answered here so no worries if not.
I’ve been recovering from a low back injury for about a year now. In that time I’ve learned a lot working with Charlie through barbell medicine coaching and have made significant progress, particularly about load management and changing my mindset. During my annual doctor checkup, I described my pain, which includes low back pain and occasional quad numbness when lying down. The numbness doesn’t occur frequently, mainly when I was carrying more weight or when my pain was worse. Nevertheless, I do still experience some lingering back stiffness but it has been getting better.
My doctor prescribed a methylprednisolone pack to reduce inflammation. He suspects I may have a pinched nerve or some compression, and I’m scheduled for an X-ray. I’m currently halfway through the pack, and it appears to be working. About a week ago though, I stopped using the rowing machine for cardio during my GPP days since it may have been causing excessive low back fatigue. So it’s hard to tell right now which is more of a factor.
After the methylprednisolone pack, my doctor recommended a month-long regimen of ibuprofen and methocarbamol. I’m unsure if this is necessary/safe, especially if I’m already feeling better? It seems like it’s a lot to prescribed over low back pain and has made me a little worried. I’m thinking of monitoring my condition/lifting sessions for the next few weeks before deciding whether to take these medications.
Please let me know if you need more information. I’m currently following the Bodybuilding 1 program and feeling good while doing it. I am also actively trying to lose weight.
