Protein & Gainzz

Hey Jordan,

Hope you had a great Christmas! Yesterday, I probably didn’t eat as much protein as normal (1.6g+/kg), which I’m totally cool with, however, it got me thinking what would happen from a gainzzz perspective if one went a whole day without any protein, so essentially fasting?

If no effect, how long would it take for a person to start losing muscle and strength if they got no/really little protein from their diet but continued to lift?

They’d lose muscle mass, even if otherwise eating in an energy surplus.

The time course depends on other variables like activity levels, health status, how you’re testing strength, etc. Also, muscle mass =/= strength. I don’t have a good answer for that question in this context.
