“Pulled” groin

Hello,
I just hurt my groin and am hoping you can lend some advice on what to do.

Basically I slipped while carrying something, my body twisting away from my right leg and my right groin bore the brunt of it (not exactly sure on the anatomy, but it feels like the adductor, not the musculature surrounding it, hurts). There is pain when I open my leg up and close it, and it gets worse the more I open/close. It’s been about 20 minutes and there is no brusing, just bad pain when I walk with a normal gate or sit down.

What do you think I should do? I’m a 29 yo male otherwise healthy with no previous injury to the area. I’m sort of wondering what I did exactly, what I can do to help facilitate healing and when I might get back to training, though I realize those might be unanswerable questions.

Thanks so so much for your time
Tim

I would say give it 48 hours then reassess. Did you feel a “pop” at all in your groin? Where are you currently at in your training?

Thanks for your reply
No pop, just a pulling/stretching sensation along with a lot of pain. I’m currently doing Bridge 2.0 after running 1.0 a couple times and LP’ing for a couple months after a long layoff from lifting. I was on week 3. It’s been about 14 hours now and symptoms are about the same, not worse or better.

Well, that is good news as it is unlikely you had a true strain. Sometimes you can experience a sensation analogous to a strain that ends up being more like a cramp in recovery. You can still train, it just may be slightly lighter in intensity. Typically by 72-96 hours the symptoms have resolved.
