Random knee pain

I noticed a few weeks ago that I had slight pain under my right knee cap. I thought it was just a strain and took a week and a half off. I returned to lifting but now I see I have pain at random times with no noticeable reason. At first I thought it was due to lifting a few times a week heavy and walking daily while pushing my kids stroller and just exhausting my joint. Than I wondered if I had some arthritis that was causing this. I can wake up and have issues walking due to the pain. I thought maybe I rotated wrong at some point and caused this issue but I am unsure. Due to things being closed I have not thought of a doctor or a real Course of action besides limiting activity and doing what I can when I can. I’m 34 years old and fairly healthy besides being a bit over weight- 190lbs 5’10”.

my question is how would you recommend modifying squats for programs like strength 1 or the bridge? I plan on moving to these programs for my home gym setup.

@wicat3 thanks for the question and sorry to hear about the recent knee symptoms. Based on what you have mentioned here, I wouldn’t worry about underlying knee osteoarthritis. I also wouldn’t recommend complete rest but rather figuring out a tolerable amount of activity with some acceptance of symptoms during and after activity that don’t leave you feeling debilitated (worrisome thoughts throughout the day about your knee pain or feeling unable to go do other life activities). We outline this approach here: https://www.barbellmedicine.com/blog…ining-what-do/

If you decide a consult is in order, we’d be happy to meet with you remotely: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F…ilUWA/viewform

Thanks for the Response. I had read the article after posting. I have been continuing activity as I can. I found running to be a trigger point for aggravation but a day or two later my knee is feeling better and I can tolerate some lighter squats with little to no pain.

Great to hear. Sounds like you are trending in a better direction.
