I looking to do a sort of recomp or weight gain. I am wondering if I should eat the same amount of calories on rest days or not? I think changing them might not be safe to do.

I don’t routinely recommend Calorie or carbohydrate cycling, e.g. high and low days, with low days typically falling on rest days. That said, I wouldn’t characterize the practice as unsafe. It’s just a fair amount of work for little payoff. If someone prefers this approach however, I’m fine with it.
