What is recomping / when is recomping?

Hi,

I want to ask more than one question if that’s ok:

  1. What is a recomposition (a. does it work / b. how does it work / c. how well does it work)?

  2. In what sorts of situations do you think recomping is the better option for someone? I think you said elsewhere on the forum that most of the time it’s not the option you favor.

If it’s useful, here’s what I think I have figured out on my own by googling and searching through this forum:
Recomping involves losing fat and gaining muscle, but staying the same weight. Also, the effect of recomping is very small and short-lasting compared to when someone focuses on fat loss or muscle gain only.

  1. Loss of body fat while gaining or maintaining muscle mass.

  2. I rarely think this is the appropriate option. That said, if someone doesn’t meet clear-cut criteria for weight loss and wants to gain muscle- they could try it.
