Female body recomposition

Hi Guys

I am 26 year old woman, about 30 pounds overweight and have never really committed to LP, really only doing bodyweight stuff and hiit in the past. Do you think it’s possible for body recomp (to lose this excess fat and gain muscle)? Or should I simply try and lose fat first then start an LP. Any advice on this is much appreciated.
Thanks very much,
Rachel

Hi Rachel,

Thanks for the post and welcome to the forum

A few things here:

  1. In general, we do not predict that women will respond differently to training or nutrition than men. In other words, we don’t think that there should be unique recommendations for women.
  2. Recomposition, which can be defined as gaining muscle while losing fat and maintaining around the same weight, can sometimes occur in those new to training and/or those with favorable genetics. I don’t know much about you, but recomposition may be possible- though if you are ~30 lbs overweight I’d probably recommend losing weight rather than trying to maintain.
  3. We do not recommend LP, as it has a substantial number of limitations. We would recommend our Beginner Prescription instead: https://www.barbellmedicine.com/blog…-prescription/

Thankyou sir!

I will get down to a healthy bodyweight (whilst trying to minimise muscle loss) and then I can try to gain some muscle and strength after that.

Just discovered these forums and they are a goldmine of great recommendations and advice (can’t tell you how many things I’ve searched) - very comforting considering the amount of unreliable info online.

Keep up the good work
