Rehabbing Elbow Pain

36yo Male, 6’4, 215lbs.

Hey Guys -

I am having two different elbow issues simultaneously right now. I’ve never had elbow issues in the past and I’m not really sure how to handle this.

Issue 1: Golfers Elbow - both elbows, but worse on the right. Inner part of my elbow with pain going into forearm. This started up over the last few weeks as I have started introducing snatches into my training. I believe it is specifically overhead squats that are doing it. It doesn’t seem to bother me during the movement, but the pain and soreness has been creeping higher and higher. I believe it is related to the overhead squat because I tend to lean a bit forward in the bottom, trying to get depth, which pushes the bar further back and is straining the elbows, but I could be wrong. Maybe it’s just the snatch grip in general? Overhead pressing in a snatch grip, snatch grip push jerks, that kind of thing don’t seem to be an issue.

Issue 2: Elbow pain right on the very point of the elbow. I started experiencing this some months ago while benching, but even after not benching for months due to quarantine it is still inflamed with things like presses overhead. The pain seems to be the worst when lowering the bar (eccentric) on each rep.

What’s the best way to tackle this?

Thanks,

Chewie

Hey @Chewie - sorry to hear about your recent elbow symptoms. Have you checked out this article - https://www.barbellmedicine.com/blog…ining-what-do/

I’d likely try to regulate loading to the areas you are having symptoms and see how you respond then build back to your baseline of training prior to symptoms.

If you need individual guidance, we’d be happy to consult with you. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F…ilUWA/viewform
