Seeing my eye veins when bracing core

Hello Doctors,

Brief history - 32 yo male, 204 lbs, 6’0”, 37” waist, 130/90 typical blood pressure when 20 lbs heavier; working on losing fat mass. No eye problems according to opthamologist as of September. Recently started Nortripyline and Buspirone, but this was happening before I started those meds.

When bracing for squats I will frequently see a spiderweb of transparent veins in my vision. This is relatively new and started this past summer. I have an appointment with my PCP on 12/1. The receptionist said the doctor was primarily concerned with my blood pressure.

Is any of this a red flag, or is this a common phenomena when lifting? If there’s any additional info you need, I will provide upon request.

Thank you for your time

If your examination was normal in September, and this only happens while bracing (with complete resolution in between), it doesn’t sound like something that would raise significant concern.

With that said, ophthalmology is a bit of an “island” in clinical medicine, meaning that outside of identifying certain emergency conditions, most non-ophthalmologists (myself included) lack a great deal of expertise with it.
