Good evening!
I have a short one: I am about to have septoplasty done in 2 days, since I cannot properly breathe through the nose. Certain folk around me, who have had the proceedure done to them, keep telling me I will be unable to lift for at least a month afterwards.
Surely that is nonsense?! A month?
At least some light squats, deads, a bit of leg press? Many thanks for the replies!
Alex
Unfortunately we don’t have good evidence to guide recommendations here (same answer we have to give with many of these sorts of post-op questions).
I’d recommend following your surgeon’s advice.
Hey Alex! I just saw my Sinus Surgeon for my Deviated Septum and he told me no heavy lifting for about 6 weeks. I even asked him about swimming and a power walk on the treadmill and he was skeptical about it.
My buddy that works at the gym told me about a guy that once had Nasal Surgery and he lifted way to early. He ended up bleeding a lot and had to be rushed to the ER and hasn’t seen him in a while. Not trying to scare you, but unfortunately we have to hold off for a while.

When I had a septoplasty in late 2016, the surgeon said not to lift for at least a week until they removed some sort of plug that was supposed to stay up there for the first week post-op. This was after he initially recommended 6 weeks because he didn’t want me dropping a bar on my face benching, and I said it was unlikely. When I started lifting again 6 days later I was really fatigued and had a little bleeding.
