Sleep apnea treated, should I quit taking T. Cypionate now?

Hey doctors, I finally got my sleep apnea treated with an APAP machine, and it’s been great. I was wondering, is low testosterone linked to sleep apnea? I’ve been taking T shots for a couple years, but now that my sleep apnea is treated, I’m open to the idea of getting off the T prescription. Do you think it’s worth trying? Also, if I quit taking T shots cold turkey, is there any meds that I should take to get my body’s hormones pumping again? I remember stopping T shots for a while years back because I didn’t see my doctor in time, and I was somewhat depressed, had zero energy, no motivation, and little interest in marital activities for almost a month.

Thanks for your time and help!

We cannot recommend that you stop a medication.

However, you are correct that OSA can contribute to low testosterone (and untreated OSA is actually a strong reason to not start TRT). We have had many patients reverse their low testosterone levels through lifestyle measures alone (frequently losing weight, treating OSA are big ones). So if you’d like to try coming off the TRT, I’d recommend having a conversation with your physician about it, as it’s a very reasonable idea. I’d typically use a taper to come off, rather than stopping cold turkey.
