Stress and Training

I know you’ve said that life stress has an impact on your training progression/performance. What if anything would you add to training for someone that routinely has high stress days/weeks? ( I know I’m working on it bit in the meantime).

If your stress is high and you are taking steps to manage that, that’s the first thing. There is nothing that you would add to your training just because of outside stress. The use of RPE is going to be very helpful, but I’d also encourage you to trust that we can often train through pretty high stress times quite well. I would NOT aim really hype yourself up regularly during training as that’s additional stress that you likely don’t need. Go train, be matter of fact about it, know it’s good for you, and hopefully it can become something that helps with your overall stress too.

Good solid social structures and support help tremendously. Meet and talk with friends and family often. If you’re introverted (like me) and have difficultly cultivating friendships, volunteer at the local animal shelter, or homeless kitchen. Being around like minded people you can’t help but converse and share. That often leads to meaningful relationships. I work in computer security for a bank, and we’re always under attack, so I know about stress. I’m on high profile breach or hack away from losing my job. The stuff i listed above really helps! Good luck!
