Tennis elbow - 8 years now!

Hey Austin & Jordan,

I have tennis elbow in both arms. It throbs and compromises my grip. I’ve had it for 8 years now and it comes and goes. I’ve been to Physiotherapists and Massage Therapists. I use therapy devices at home like a Flex Bar for eccentric loading and occasionally this self massage device called the Arm Aid.

I do exercises with light dumbbells like Hammer Curls and other forearm exercises and also the usual stretches that are recommend. I have taken time off to rest the arms but the pain always comes back! I make progress and then BOOM…I have to stop again to rest my arms. I’m really frustrated!

PS: I just read online about Rippetoe’s suggestion of high sets of low rep chin-ups. I am not able to even do 1 chin up due to being a bigger guy. Therefore, I’m not sure if this method would help me if I’m using the assisted chin up machine.

Any advice on this matter wold be greatly appreciated because I love lifting and don’t want to have to quit or take too much time off and lose my gains. Thanks!

We do not agree with the “pin firing” concept.

Given the duration and persistence of your symptoms, it is unlikely that there will be “one quick fix” here, and my main suggestion would be a consultation with our rehab experts on this matter.
