So seems like common sense to avoid its intake before lifting due to being a muscle relaxant, but do u think that long term use even if not taken 24h before lifting can impair u in a way and make u miss that pr, due to the long half life of the drug?
And lastly, if taken on rest days, do u think it can affect the recovery in any way, and thus impairing the resulting adaptation?
I don’t consider/describe valium as a “muscle relaxer”, although many people do refer to it that way. It is a benzodiazepine drug that acts as a nervous system depressant; i.e., a sedative. It does not act specifically on the muscles and does not induce muscle-specific relaxation or inhibit muscle contraction. When describing benzodiazepines to students or patients, I describe them as being analogous to “alcohol in pill form”, although valium has a much longer half-life in the blood compared to alcohol.
