Tibial tubercle transfer - reassurance of surgery

Long story short, I dislocated my kneecap about a month ago. This is the 7th time I’ve dislocated my kneecap over the years and my doctor is recommending surgery. My kneecap is permanently displaced and possibly accelerating my arthritis that’s already there. I’ve rehabbed my knee back every time this has happened before and the knee instability and lack of confidence I have when being active is maddening

Deading about this procedure it sounds like it’s very successful. Many folks are back to activities they would like to do. Of course lifting is a priority for me but also mountain biking, snowboarding, hiking, jogging, etc.

Do you have any experience rehabbing athletes back from this surgery and success outcomes?

Sorry to hear about this - unfortunately I do not have direct experience with this, but I suspect that Dr. Miles from our rehab team would be more familiar with it. I think that a consultation with him would get you the most applicable / individualized answers to this question!

I had a similar situation with repeated dislocations and surgery was the best decision for me. Rehab takes patience but if you stick with it there’s a very good chance you’ll get back to lifting and the activities you enjoy. Wishing you a smooth recovery
