Transitioning off of TRT/Training

So long story short, I’ve been on TRT for a year and a half. The diagnosis was not done properly (and not done by an Endocrinologist,) I initially had a level of 308 which was considered low (but not below the range as I learned later.) It was not done fasted in the morning and was done only once (not twice which I learned is standard.)

I didn’t know better at the time and was prescribed a TRT routine of 50mg Test Cyp injections 2x week + .5mg Arimidex 2x week (24 hours after the injection.) I hated it and essentially got none of the supposed benefits and a bunch of the side effects (acne etc.) I heard the TRT podcast and saw Dr. Baraki’s article on it. Finally saw an Endocrinologist who agreed I probably don’t need to be on it, and directed me to come off of it. No transition, just stop taking everything. He’d test me the correct way in about 6 weeks once the levels normalize.

However I’m noticing there’s a transition period because my fatigue levels have increased noticeably over the last 1.5 weeks since I stopped. Worried I’m “nocebo-ing” myself and that it’s all in my head. In any case I’m currently in the group programming (powerebuilding) and wondering if I should be adjusting my training at all during this period. Or since I’m following RPE as part of the programming would correctly following auto-regulation work the problem out until I adjust? Probably answered my own question but appreciate some input. Thank you!

Hey Tommy,

Sorry to hear about your difficult time with the TRT stuff, but I’m glad you’re getting it sorted out properly now. I’m not too surprised you’re feeling a bit worse off the medicine compared to being on it. If I were in your situation, I’d prefer not to reduce the amount of training I’m doing if possible, so this means that adjusting as needed for the RPE targets is probably your best bet moving forward. It will get better!

Will do. Thanks coach!
