TSH low but T4 in range

Hey Guys,

I am a 32 yr old male, 66" 144 lbs. Run or cycle 6 days a week with 3 days strength training as well.

I just had my annual physical and blood work done. My TSH came back low (0.462) but T4 was in range (1.29) yet my doctor has suggested I see an endocrinologist.
Looking at symptoms generally related to low TSH I cannot say I have experienced any of them, ever.

I am OK with going down this road to rule out a bigger issue but I do not want to waste my time with another doctor visit and more blood work if this is merely a “cover your butt” move by my family doctor.

Thoughts?

Sounds like your doctor is concerned about the possibility of subclinical hyperthyroidism:

While I don’t find these values particularly concerning, I can’t tell you to not follow your doctor’s recommendations either.

Thank you for the quick response Austin, the literature you linked is very helpful.
