1-rep warmup sets?

Hi guys,

What’s your take on 1-rep warms up sets (after the bottom set of 2)?

I was reading an email from one of your fellow SS alums, and that’s what they were recommending, after the bottom set of 2.

Potential advantages are that it saves time (a big deal for me) and let’s you do more of your work with heavier weights.

Thoughts? Downsides? Absolute BBM prohibition?

Thanks.

Rick

I’m not really sure what you mean “after the bottom set”, but warm-up singles are pretty commonplace when working up to heavy weights, especially heavy singles.

I don’t think it’s necessarily true that everyone will do significantly more work with heavier weights or that if this is true, the small difference actually matters for training outcomes.

Thanks, doc.

So, are they safe / okay as a time saver for someone a ways into the Beginner Template?

I don’t see any differences from a safety perspective, but I think sticking to the prescribed rep range would be my preference on the beginner template to improve the precision of the RPE rating.
