I’ve noticed that the prescribed backoff sets at 75% feel really really light… this would make sense given that a set of 4 at 75% should be sub-RPE 6. What is the reasoning behind going so light here, rather than shooting for an RPE of 7-8 for backoffs? Are the backoffs supposed to be that low on the RPE scale?
Just making sure I’m not doing this the wrong way.
Depending on the rep range, the current fatigue, and rest periods- 75% can feel a variety of different ways. That being said, our position is that developing strength occurs over a wide range of intensities depending on the goal. For maximal strength, we think most of the volume work should be done in the ~70-80% range (with error bars on either side).
