I’m currently running the Hypertrophy 1 program. Would there be any downside to adding swimming as cardio on one of the GPP days? I feel I might lose some strength gains in the short term but would gain them back later on. I would start slow with the swimming to get acclimated. I mainly enjoy swimming as it makes me feel looser in my shoulders and back, and I’ve become bored with other forms of cardio at this point. My swimming level is between beginner and intermediate. I’m not entirely sure how to program the swimming and would appreciate any resources or if a consultation is advised.
Specific programming is probably best-suited for a consultation, but there’s no reason you couldn’t do swimming for an equivalent amount of volume as 1 of the steady state sessions in the template. I’d probably break that up into chunks, e.g. 5 min of skills and drills, 20 -minutes of aerobic intervals (3-5 minutes at slow to moderate pace, 1-2 minute break, repeat), then another 5 min skills and drills cool down period. I wouldn’t recommend jumping in to doing all of your conditioning in the pool just yet, but that’s a reasonable goal in a few months.

Thanks, Jordan! Would that go before or after lifting, or is it more a matter of personal preference?
I would recommend conditioning pretty much always go after lifting.
