I’m wondering, for my specific case*, should I attempt to reduce my salt intake to <2300 mg/day? I’m not a fan of ASCVD, but I’m having trouble trying to figure out how to a) meet my caloric needs, while b) reducing sodium, even while consuming a rather **minimally processed dietary pattern.
*no personal history or familial cardiovascular events (that I’m aware of), train 5x per week + 2x week (cardio), eating in a caloric surplus (calories are high, sodium is also high; ~3.5-4 grams), only get my “sweat on” to a high degree when doing cardio
**goldfish are my highest sodium containing food (~2.5-3 servings per day) fruit, veg, and fiber are in check
thank you for your time, and I’m sorry if this can be addressed elsewhere, like another post.
It’s probably not possible to consume > 3500 Calories/day and < 2300mg sodium per day without going to extreme measures. I think if your waist, body comp, and blood pressure all are consistent with good health- I wouldn’t worry about it.
Is not worrying about it more so to do with the Caloric intake making it near impossible, or the part about waist/body comp/blood pressure being consistent with good health?
For example if someone was in a similar position with waist/body comp/blood pressure being consistent with good health but ate around 2500~ Calories, should they worry/micromanage it? Of course processed food shouldn’t be a staple in that individual’s diet, but even foods like low Calorie sauces (soy sauce), marinades, and seasonings can be quite high in sodium, adding up to that3500mg~ markeven.
