Hi, I’ve been wondering if BBM subscribes to the idea that deadlifts are less “dependent” on bodyweight/muscle mass than presses? I suppose what I mean is, is LBM or muscle CSA or whatever going to be more tightly correlated with 1RM and other strength feats on lifts like bench and press compared to deadlifts?
Moreover, would it follow that if a calorie and/or protein deficit over a long period of time ravaged a lifter while she continued to train both lifts, would you expect that her Deadlifts would lose less strength relative to the pressing movements, assuming that the lifter has trained pulls and presses for the same amount of time/with the same amount of effectiveness up until that point?
I don’t think so, necessarily. Rather, I think leverages and programming are very important here. You’ll find people on both sides here, but most people’s upper body programming in this little corner of the Internet is so bad that I almost expect a regression in strength with it.
