Athlete “Stability” and “Technique”

I never understood why athletic coaches always have some fancy exercise to get you ready for the actually exercise. Like “to be very stable” you need to squat on a body ball etc.
Did I miss a athletic trainer class or something where all the revolutionary techniques came out lol?
My example would be Athlete | Training | Coaching on Instagram: "Athletes make sure you can do this before going H.A.M. On advanced techniques for power & explosiveness #athlete #strengthtraining #strength #explosive"

It’s probably people just trying to post something eye catching or ‘different’ to gain more activity on their social media page. I’m no scientist but I doubt any of its really evidence based. Like if I want to be better prepared to perform the bench press then why would I do something that isn’t the bench press? All seems a bit counterintuitive to me.
