Bench arch

Hello,

Are there any guidelines as to the extent of the lower back arch on the bench press? It seems a larger arch feels more stable but with more pressure on the lower back – especially with leg drive.
Is there a roll for the abs to counteract the some of the extension pressure?

We usually have people arch as much as they are able to tolerate for maximum strength performance. Otherwise, no real guidelines. I have not cued anyone to contract their abs consciously during the bench.
